Description

The Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses with Neural Band are smart glasses featuring a built-in right-lens display and gesture-controlled wristband. They include a monocular in-lens display (600 × 600 px, ~20° FOV) for showing visual information such as navigation, messages, and AI responses. The glasses integrate a 12 MP camera, 1080p video recording, open-ear speakers, and a six-microphone array for audio input and output. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, they provide Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, with around 6 hours of battery life, extendable via the charging case. The included Neural Band uses surface electromyography (sEMG) to detect wrist muscle signals, allowing gesture-based control of the glasses’ interface. The band offers haptic feedback and up to 18 hours of operation. The glasses support photo and video capture, AI-assisted features, messaging, navigation overlays, live transcription, and translation. They are IPX4 water-resistant (band IPX7) and available in two frame sizes and multiple colours, with optional prescription lenses.

Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Review: Cool Tech, But Not Quite There Yet

The Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses blend classic Ray-Ban style with Meta’s wearable tech ambitions. At around £799, they pack in a 12MP camera, speakers, microphones, and a small display in the right lens, all designed to let you capture photos, take calls, and interact with Meta AI hands-free. The optional Neural Band wrist controller adds gesture control, giving them a futuristic feel. They look and feel great, but practicality is still a challenge. The battery life lasts about six hours, the display only works in one eye, and third-party support is limited to Meta’s own apps such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Privacy also remains a concern, as people are understandably wary of face-mounted cameras, even with a recording light indicator. The glasses perform well for notifications, calls, and casual photography, but the experience still feels more experimental than essential. They showcase how far wearable tech has come, but they’re not quite ready for everyday life. Overall, the Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses are stylish and clever but not yet practical enough for most people. A solid 3 out of 5 — great for early adopters, but most users will want to wait for the next generation.

Pros
  • Stylish Ray-Ban design that feels natural to wear
  • Bright, high-quality display that works well outdoors
  • Convenient photo and video capture with hands-free controls
  • Neural Band gesture input adds novelty and accessibility
  • Integration with Meta AI and social apps works smoothly
Cons
  • High price compared with overall functionality
  • Battery life too short for full-day use
  • Limited third-party app support outside Meta’s ecosystem
  • Ongoing privacy concerns with built-in camera use
  • Monocular display can cause visual strain for some users
  • Feels more like a concept device than an essential everyday tool
